To the editor:
The deplorable decision by LRGH President Thomas Clairmont to kick the daily AA meeting out of the hospital is another sign that even "not-for-profit" hospitals are becoming increasingly more concerned with income than prevention and treatment, especially for those with little or no ability to pay. Of course, LRGH will continue to provide income-producing treatments to those whose chemical dependency problems cause severe illness or injury, which may well be the intent.
Of course, without the income from alcohol-and-drug-related injuries and illnesses, top hospital executives might lose their six-figure salaries; prevention is not profitable.
LRGH is a community hospital. This unfortunate decision is contrary to its mission and I ask the board to overrule the president.
