To the editor,
I find it odd that some might think the idea that God might be interested in the election process of choosing the leaders of the most powerful country on earth is somehow outside of the reasonable. Also I find it sad that many think it somehow weird that God would communicate his choice to someone who is intently watching and listening. Yet the Spirit of God put in my heart to take another look at John McCain when his campaign was still floundering in the Republican primary. I was not a McCain supporter at that time. I have been obedient and I have been watching. As some of you may have noticed I am now a strong McCain supporter.
Now, in earthly terms, this is how I see the election playing out: Barack Obama seems to me to typify the embodiment of what Abraham Lincoln warned young lawyers against; that is leaning too heavily on speech-making while neglecting the doing of the work of lawyer, except in Obama's case that would be a senator. If being an effective senator comes first then your speaking ability can sell your accomplishments. This is why his careers as a community organizer has become such a joke. The point is not to belittle community organizers. Its just that it's not a qualification for the presidency. It's like me going and applying to be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company citing my experience doing a paper route as my primary qualification. To add to that Barack Obama has cut his political teeth doing tutelage in the Chicago political machine, not exactly credentials for someone claiming to be a political outsider. The close personal relationships in his not so distant past are also problematic Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers. Wright, Obama claimed as his spiritual mentor, with Ayers we'll have to wait and see. The fact is we have no idea who Obama really is except that he's a heck of an orator, has a very liberal voting record and close ties to big labor.
What I see this election turning on is congruence. The question is which candidate is who he says he is, which candidate can back up his claims with deeds accomplished. Barack Obama gives a heck of a speech but what has he done to earn the presidency.
John McCain has served our country. He has demonstrated his willingness to sacrifice for her time and again. Most know of his military service so I won't belabor that again save it is note worthy to repeat that as a prisoner of war he turned down an early release for love of his fellow prisoners and love of country. He has to the consternation of many conservatives reached across partisan lines to form consensus. Agree with him or disagree with him he has earned the moniker of maverick which the media itself bestowed on him at time when Obama was largely unknown outside of Illinois. I started paying attention to him when he made the decision that America winning the war in Iraq was more important that his winning an election. The choice I see in this election is the doer vs the talker.
I see McCain winning that contest hands down.
