To the editor,
Proponents of gay marriage would like John & Jane Doe to accept it as a reasonable and rational solution to the gay's goal of "equality". Sorry, Mr Allard, but the Doe's know in their heart that gay marriage is an invasion of marriage, not an enhancement. Of course, the Doe's also know they will be accused of having a "hard" heart or are being "bigoted". Accusations are the primary weapons of the gay-lesbian activists and the "D" word (discrimination) is their clarion call. These weapon-words are used to keep anyone who would hold an opposing view, and their weak-kneed politicians, huddling in fear, afraid to pull back the curtain and see the wizard of words for what he is. Mr. Gregoire, in his letter, tells the Doe's to SHUT UP and suggests they take option B of the N.H. state motto, "live free or DIE" (emphasis mine). Mr. Gregoire does not realize that he is surrounded by a citizenry who have "worn the uniform" or are currently "wearing the uniform" who will not accept his invitation to do either. Mr. Allard of the gay Stonewall Democrats offers the "gay as victim" approach by misusing the "separate but equal" true (racial) discrimination argument to say "me too" on discrimination.
When citizens are asked to serve on a jury they are asked to "follow the evidence" and "what would the reasonable and prudent person do in this situation". When they render a verdict it is very rare that the verdict is deemed discriminatory or bigoted. It's simply an answer to a difficult question. The Doe's do not see sufficient evidence that "extending marriage to same sex couples will strengthen it" in any manner shape or form. It will merely serve the bidding of the few against the wishes of the majority. Civil union legislation can be enacted, as here in N.H., and improved throughout the states to meet the legitimate legal needs of same sex relationships. I would like to see Mr. Allard and the Stonewall Democrats put on their thinking hats and come up with legislation that meets both the Doe's needs and theirs.
