Do I need to be against asking immigratns to U.S. to assimilate?

To The Daily Sun,

Jimmie, as I read your weekly, or more frequent, letters to the editor, I can only think how you must have been the college debate coach's favorite debater always willing to take the indefensible side of every argument. Does it ever get tiring trying to convince the rest of us that we must lower our standards to the point of failure so we will all be equals in your mind?

Your latest letter talks about the echoes of fascism and all of the things in this country that you see as being hints of this ideology. As I do not wish to be called a fascist, let me see if I get your point on how not be called one such person.

1. Instead of wishing to make the country great again. I need to be against making the country great again

2. Instead of being for a strong military, I need to be against having a strong military, thereby putting the country at risk against dictators around the world who do not give a tinkers damn — what they are called by the "intelligentsia"

3. I need to be against the man and woman model of family that has worked for over 5,000 years as the glue to keep societies together.

4. I need to be against English as a unifying force in the country, though India, with its 300 languages and over 1,000 dialects, has realized that such a level of diversity does not work and all matters of commerce and law are conducted in English.

5. I need to be against asking our immigrants (legal and not) to assimilate into the American culture because diversity as practiced in the Balkans and the Middle East has worked so very well and we should follow it.

6. I need to be against hate speech, religious stereotyping, revoking civil rights in the name of patriotism and national

security but it is apparently acceptable to use hate speech as you regularly do to label groups you find annoying, and for the president to use it when going after "people clinging to their bibles" and for college professors to shut down any and all speech that they label anti PC, and it is further acceptable to monitor all publications that are against left-leaning thought. Now this is where you confuse me and I need clarification on which side I need to be.

And finally the accusation of being anti-Marxist-socialist. In as much as both approaches have failed miserably whenever wherever it has been tried seems to be rather on the unstable side because one of the definitions of insanity is to keep trying the same thing the same way and expecting a different result.

To see echoes of fascism in being for so many things that have made the country great, safe and stable over the past 200 plus years is to me the equivalent of sitting and watching my dog and thinking he may be writing the next classic novel in his mind. If you try hard enough you can take any concept and twist it to whatever you believe. Sadly that echo you hear is not fascism it is the resounding noise leftist failure makes when applied to a populace.
