OSSIPEE – A Tamworth man is facing multiple charges after a State Police pursuit in town.

Around 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, New Hampshire State Police Trooper Caleb Savard of the Troop E barracks attempted to conduct a traffic stop after observing a vehicle that failed to display license plates on Route 16 northbound in Ossipee.

Savard activated his emergency lights and sirens; however, the driver did not stop and instead increased speed, traveling on Route 41 and Ossipee Lake Road. The brief pursuit concluded when the driver went down a dead-end road and surrendered, where he was taken into custody.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the pursuit was identified as Brian Carson, 53, of Tamworth.

Carson has been charged with driving after suspension for DUI, suspended registration, disobeying an officer, and failure to display plates.

He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Ossipee District Court on July 8.

The press release was posted to the State Police Facebook page. Several people expressed frustration that Carson was allowed to go free on personal recognizance bail.

"Released him? I’m losing all faith in our justice system," said Adam Savell. "Dude gets a DUI and drives anyway on a suspended license and you let him out to do it again. Stuff like this gets people killed. When someone shows you they’re a danger to the public, believe them."
