‘Funny Money’ brings Dane Cook back to York to revisit his brother’s $12M theft

YORK — A new documentary revisits how comedian Dane Cook — one of the biggest celebrities with ties to York — had $12 million stolen by his half‑brother, who owned a home at Short Sands Beach.

"Funny Money" premieres Sept. 29 on Apple TV and tells the story of how Cook, then at the height of his career, put Darryl McCauley in charge of his finances as power of attorney. The film includes interviews with Cook, who reflects on the deception and on how his brother invested millions of dollars in property and businesses in York.

“Daryl, what happened? What have you done?” Cook asked his brother in a voicemail shared in a trailer for the documentary.

Adam Scorgie, who co‑produced the film, said Cook reflects on how his half‑brother betrayed his trust, forging financial statements and stealing millions before eventually serving his jail sentence.
