DOVER — A construction worker from Tilton was killed in a work zone on the Spaulding Turnpike on Friday. State Police say he was hit by another worker who was backing up a pickup truck. The accident is under investigation, but no charges have yet been filed.
Everett Martin, 65, of Tilton, died on Friday, according to a release from State Police.
State Troopers with Troop A and G barracks responded to a report of a crash in a construction work zone on Route 16, also known as Spaulding Turnpike, at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16. A preliminary investigation found a vehicle at the site, a 2020 Ford Super Duty truck driven by 35-year-old Ryan Prescott, of Manchester, hit Martin while in reverse at the work zone.
First responders attempted life-saving measures following the crash, but Martin died from his injuries. Police reported his family was notified about his death.
A lane of Route 16 northbound was closed for more than three hours during the investigation of the accident on Friday.
State Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Dover Fire Department, state Department of Transportation, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
