GILFORD — A teenager was transported to the hospital after becoming unconscious while tubing on Lake Winnipesaukee Tuesday evening.

New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol officers responded to the area of Little Camp Island at 4:56 p.m. Tuesday evening after receiving reports of a 17-year-old who became unconscious while tubing with family members on the lake, according to State Police.

Marine Patrol officers Sgt. Nicholas Haroutunian and Supervisor David Jones quickly responded to the scene and immediately boarded the vessel. Upon their arrival, officers found the teenager’s father was performing life-saving measures.

Haroutunian and Jones continued performing life-saving measures on the juvenile while coordinating with a rescue boat operated by the Gilford Fire Department, according to State Police.

Gilford Fire Department Chief Stephen Carrier said firefighters initially responded to the Glendale Docks after receiving reports of the accident east of the Camp Islands. Firefighters met Marine Patrol officers and transferred the teenager to their department rescue boat and transported them to shore.

The child was then transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia in critical but stable condition, State Police said.

State Department of Safety Public Information Officer Tyler Dumont said Wednesday aspects of the incident are still under investigation and no further details are immediately available to the public.

Anyone with information that may assist in the ongoing investigation is encouraged to contact Haroutunian at 603-227-2112 or Nicholas.M.Haroutunian@DOS.NH.GOV.
