LACONIA — Police were looking for leads Friday one day after a man robbed the Happy Cow Ice Cream Shop.

The man told a shop employee he had a gun under his shirt. He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A police dog picked up the track of the suspect as it led down Union Avenue and the WOW trail, but the scent ended just before Elm Street.

The suspect was described as being in his 20s, with tan or light brown skin, about 5-foot-6 and wearing a green hooded sweatshirt. A white cloth covered his face, and he was wearing gloves and carrying a drawstring sports bag.

Police Chief Matt Canfield said the city averages only about a dozen robberies a year in which force or a weapon is involved.

Such a shop would not likely have a lot of cash on hand, particularly this time of year.

“It was an odd place to rob,” Canfield said.

Police are asking for a call at 603-524-5252 from anyone who has information about the robbery or thinks they may have seen the suspect.
