LACONIA — The city’s school board will hear a presentation about the newest program at Laconia Middle School, the family and consumer science class, when it meets on Tuesday night.
The middle school building was designed with a space specific for FACS use, but since it opened in 2008, it never had such a class until this school year.
The program was finally launched thanks to the hiring of Tiffany Dube, who taught at Woodland Heights Elementary School before leaving the district to join the faculty at Plymouth State University.
Dube has impressed the school community since being hired by the school board in November. She is creating a new curriculum for the program, which is intended to both prepare students to live stable lives as adults as well as provide basic skills that can be expanded upon through classes at the Huot Career & Technical Center, and she has organized a field trip for students to visit the Covered Bridge Farm To Table restaurant in Campton.
Additionally, board members will hear a report from Superintendent Bob Champlin about the collective bargaining agreement with the Laconia Education Association.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the district office at 39 Harvard St. The public is welcome to attend.
