04-21 Carpenter Tools

NEW HAMPTON — Shortly after a story appeared last week in The Laconia Daily Sun about Troy Drake’s plight — he lost all of his carpentry tools in a garage fire — calls began coming in from readers who wanted to help him.

Glen Aldrich of Gilford was the first to seek Drake out. He went as far as driving to Drake’s home on Old Bristol Road and picking him up so he could look over the tools Aldrich had at his home. Drake was able to select several of the tools he needed — some of them still in their original packaging — and Aldrich drove him back to New Hampton.

“I was so surprised,” Drake said, adding that Aldrich also suggested a possible job repairing a second-story deck. “I really appreciate what he did.”

Over the next three days, five other readers called and left their contact information so Drake could reach them and arrange to pick up any tools they had that would be useful to him.

“I’m so grateful to these people I didn’t even know,” Drake said.
