Two adults, two minors and four juveniles were taken into custody Wednesday night when police interrupted an underage drinking party in a wooded area on the northern shoreline of Lake Winnisquam.

A resident of Meredith Center Road, suspicious of three vehicles parked in the woods, called police around 11:30 p.m. Officers found the vehicles parked at the top of a trail head and about a half-mile down the trail came upon the partygoers sitting around a large fire. After extinguishing the fire and cleaning the area, the eight were taken into protective custody.

Michael Noyes, 26, of Center Harbor and Dustin Cousins, 21, of Meredith were released to sober adults. Corey Verrill, 19, of Meredith was released his parents and Nicole Verrill, 18, of New Hampton to relatives. A 16 year old male, two 17 year old brothers and a 15 year old girl, all from Meredith, were released to their parents.
