LACONIA — One person was taken to Concord Hospital-Laconia with minor injuries Wednesday, after being hit by a car on Union Avenue. The pedestrian was chasing after a dog that ran into the roadway.
The Laconia Fire and Police departments responded to 208 Union Ave. at 7:48 p.m. on Nov. 19, about a call that a pedestrian was hit by a motorist. Fire Chief Tim Joubert said a 60-year-old man ran out into traffic after his dog broke free, the man was then hit by a driver who was going “very slow.” Joubert estimated the driver was traveling less than 10 mph when the pedestrian was it.
“There were minor injuries due to the low speed of the vehicle that was approaching,” Joubert said.
Joubert said while injuries seemed to be mainly minor soreness and described as “nothing significant,” the pedestrian was taken the hospital to be evaluated as a precaution. It is a busy roadway, and it was dark, and Joubert acknowledged the situation could have been worse.
“It was pretty fortunate that there were just minor injuries,” Joubert said.
Joubert did not have any further information about the dog. The scene was cleared at 8:08 p.m.
It was not immediately clear whether charges would be filed related to the accident.
