LACONIA — City police arrested a suspect they believe was involved in at least two of a string of burglaries or attempted break-ins last week downtown. Police are also investigating a report of a home invasion on Academy Street.
Chief Matt Canfield said three businesses reported last Friday morning of being victimized during the prior overnight. New Hempshire CBD reported an attempted break-in, during which damage was caused to a door, and both Local Eatery and Koung Sushi Mart reported someone had broken in and stolen items of value.
“We had several officers who worked this case over the weekend,” Canfield said. One officer in particular, Richard Sullivan, was able to develop several leads which brought Rebecca Hanson to the attention of investigators.
On Sunday night, Hanson, 39, with no fixed address but believed to be a resident of Laconia, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and burglary connected to the complaints regarding the theft from Local Eatery and the attempted break-in at New Hempshire CBD.
She was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday morning.
“We anticipate further charges as well,” Canfield said.
In an unrelated case, Canfield said police were notified on Friday of what he called a “home invasion-style” burglary that took place at a rooming house on Academy Street.
In this incident, three individuals entered the home on Wednesday, when the manager was out of town.
“Three subjects came in with masks on, purported to be probation and parole officers, and told everyone to be calm, that they weren’t there for any one of them,” Canfield said. The masked trio went into a room that contained a safe, and tried unsuccessfully to open it. After that first attempt failed, they left and returned with tools, ultimately either cracking the safe or removing it entirely from the residence.
The alleged crime wasn’t reported until the manager returned on Friday and found the contents of the safe, which included “significant dollar value items,” were missing.

Time to get serious about drugs in New Hampshire. Sad this girl has reached this point in her life. Time for death penalty for those who poison and supply drugs for a slow death
