GILFORD — A Gilford driver has died from injuries following a collision Thursday morning.
Mark Mason, 79, died at Concord Hospital-Laconia on Friday night, according to Gilford Police Lt. Curtis Mailloux.
Gilford Police responded to a two-car accident at 7:37 a.m. on Aug. 20, at the intersection of Weirs and Lakeshore roads, with a report of injuries. Mailloux said when he arrived at the scene, there was a state trooper giving Mason CPR. Mason was driving a white Lexus SUV.
Mailloux said Mason was driving west, on Lakeshore, and a black Subaru, driven by a 16-year-old male, was driving east, and preparing to turn left on Weirs Road at the traffic light in front of Sawyer’s Dairy Bar.
The collision happened in the middle of the intersection, and at about 9:30 a.m., both vehicles remained there, surrounded by cones and investigating officers.
Both vehicles were damaged on their front ends, and pieces of the cars were scattered in the road. The driver’s side window of the SUV was broken, and most of the front bumper hanging off.
Details of the collision are under investigation, including the active traffic signals at the time. Police spoke with the driver of the Subaru, and the Belknap Regional Accident Investigation Team was at the scene with drone. Mailloux said Mason was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police closed the intersection in all directions until about 11 a.m., while the reconstruction team investigated. Gilford Fire Department, Belknap County Sheriff's Office and the Laconia Police Department responded to the accident, as well.
Charges or other information will be released as the investigation progresses.
