A local man was beaten and robbed behind the Laconia Spa convenience store on Church Street around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Jason Sabin, 24, of 613 Main Street told police he was walking behind the Spa and a man attacked him from behind, knocked him to the ground and hit him in the back with an unknown object before making off with his wallet and backpack.

Sabin described his assailant as a black man, about five feet ten inches tall and of medium build, wearing black cargo pants, a camouflage sweatshirt and a hat. Police believe the suspect may have fled in a gray, two-door coupe of unknown make and registration.

Sabin was treated for a back injury at Lakes Region General Hospital and released. Police investigating the assault urge anyone with information that could assist in identifying and locating the assailant to contact the Laconia Police Department at 524-5252 or the Greater Laconia Crime Line at 524-1717.
