Student volunteers Tilly Hebron, Kiera Moynihan, Hayden Hebron, of the Inter-Lakes Interact Club, and Rotary Advisor Gary Dehnel donate socks to the Salvation Army on Union Avenue in Laconia on Nov. 16. The club collected 3,700 pairs of socks, and distributed them to Lakes Region organizations including Helping Hands soup kitchen at Real Life Church, Belknap House, Isaiah 61 Cafe, New Beginnings, Bridge House homeless shelter, Salvation Army and Lakes Region Santa Fund. Bins were placed all over the Lakes Region to collect socks, including at all schools in the Inter-Lakes School District, Meredith Village Savings Bang, churches and local businesses. The Interact Club is a Rotary-sponsored club for seventh through 12 graders, offering them an opportunity to do service projects in their community. Inter-Lakes High School Interact Club Advisor Cristina LaRue said the club focused on socks since the clothing item is usually in shortage. “They often don’t have enough socks,” she said. “People donate used jackets and other types of clothes, but not socks.” (Daniel Sarch/The Laconia Daily Sun photo)
