A minimum security inmate of the Belknap County House of Correction, who was assigned to a work detail at the County Nursing Home, escaped at around 6 a.m. yesterday only to be captured three hours later.

Joseph Desbien, 35, of Laconia, who was serving concurrent sentences for forgery, has been charged with escape, a class B felony.

The Belknap County Sheriff's Department, Laconia Police Department and New Hampshire State Police mounted a search when corrections officers reported that Desbien had walked away from a kitchen detail. Shortly after 9 p.m. Trooper Charles George and his K-9 spotted Desbien near Holman Street. The fugitive ran into the woods alongside Wentworth Avenue, where he was apprehended without incident by Sheriff Craig Wiggin.

Desbien was booked at the Sheriff's Department and returned to jail.
