Three teenage boys who were allegedly carrying high-powered air rifles and taking refuge in a cottage on Old North Main Street were arrested after attempting to flee from police on Wednesday afternoon.
Two 16 year old juveniles were released to their parents while Benoit J. Crowell, 17, of 184 Morningside Drive was charged with resisting arrest, possession of a controlled drug and criminal trespass. Crowell was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail and scheduled to be arraigned in Laconia District Court on July 9.
Shortly before 4 p.m. police received a report that three men carrying rifles entered the woods on Morningside Drive. Searching the area with Officer Steve Orton, Officer Justin Blanchette came upon the three in a cottage at 1105 Old North Main Street overlooking Lake Opechee. All three fled, one with what appeared to be a rifle fitted with a scope, but were quickly overtaken and arrested.
The rifle turned out to be a high-powered BB gun, one of several found by police, along with a small amount of marijuana. Contacted by police, the owner of the cottage said that none of the three had permission to be on his property.
