Belknap County Young Republicans host candidate BBQ

Lakes Region voters were given an opportunity to meet Republican candidates running for a spate of elected positions thanks to the newly-formed Belknap County Young Republicans, who hosted a barbecue Aug. 21, in Belmont, at Tioga Pavilion. All Republican candidates on the ballot were invited. The young Republicans intended to provide a chance for voters to ask questions. “We wanted to give the voter one last opportunity to make decisions before the primary,” said Ronnie Abbott, chair of BCYR. “The desire is to get young Republicans elected because, I believe, the average age in the New Hampshire House of Representatives is 63. We're trying to level it out.” He said the event accomplished what it intended. “The greatest part of the barbecue? I was sitting down with an older couple who attended, and they were so thankful the candidates they were stuck between were there,” he said. “All the candidates went around to each table. They were able to make their decision for the primary.” Federal candidates in attendance included John E. Sununu for U.S. Senate; and Hollie Noveletsky, Brian Cole and Anthony DiLorenzo, all running for the 1st Congressional District. Local attendees included Dana Silcock running for Belmont state representative; Rep. Tom Ploszaj (R-Center Harbor) who is seeking reelection; Cody Pfaff and Paul Rossi, running for Laconia state representative; Rep. Glen Aldrich (R-Gilford), running for reelection to represent Gilford, Gilmanton and Laconia Ward 2; Priscilla Bean, running for Statehouse to serve Gilford, Gilmanton and Laconia Ward 2; and Sen. Tim Lang (R-Sanbornton), running for reelection. BCYF endorsed Silcock, Pfaff, and Rep. Matt Coker (R-Meredith), running for reelection. The State Primary is Tuesday, Sept. 8, followed by the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
