Residents of the Taylor Community visited the Laconia Police Department on Friday morning, eating lunch with the officers and learning about modern policing. At about 11 a.m., eight Taylor residents and their guests sat in the department's "roll call" room, where Det. Eric Adams discussed the Prevention, Enforcement and Treatment program, and the importance of working with community members to get the help or resources they need. Adams also showed those gathered a bulletproof vest worn by police officers, and explained the effectiveness of armored plates which can be inserted into the front of a vest, protecting an officer's vital organs. In the department's community room, visitors sat for a pizza lunch, while officers described their roles. Det. Sgt. Ben Black said he supervises four other detectives who handle most felony cases. Taylor Community residents commented on changes they've noticed in police work over their lifetime, and asked questions. "Criminals get smarter every day," Adams said, noting police have to keep up with advancements in technology to better serve their communities proactively.
