TILTON — New Hampshire State Police are investigating the death of one person Thursday on Lake Winnisquam.

Marine Patrol officers received notice of a water rescue involving an adult man, later identified as Jack Bilodeau, 81, of Westford, Massachusetts, at 11:35 a.m. Aug. 14. Bilodeau was believed to have been swimming after his drifting boat on Winnisquam, near Mohawk Island.

Bilodeau was observed having a possible medical event in the water and was briefly submerged before being quickly pulled out of the lake by a Good Samaritan, according to State Police. The Good Samaritan continued performing lifesaving efforts on Bilodeau on the shore along Route 3, until the arrival of first responders.

Bilodeau was transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia, where he was pronounced deceased.

This is the second attempted water rescue in the Lakes Region this week, after the body of Forrest Wells, 76, of Virginia, was found Tuesday in Moultonborough. He is believed to have drowned.

Marine Patrol officers were assisted by members of the Tilton Police Department, Tilton/Northfield Fire Department and Belmont Fire Department.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation, and anyone with additional information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact Marine Patrol Officer Bryant Tarr at 603-293-2037 or Bryant.A.Tarr@dos.nh.gov.
