CAMPTON — One motorcyclist died and another two were injured following a crash on Interstate 93 last weekend.

Anthony Caton, 41, of Round Lake, New York, was transported to the hospital following the crash, where he later died, according to State Police.

Troopers were notified at 4:41 p.m. on June 15 of a motorcycle crash in the southbound lanes of I-93 near mile marker 87 and found three riders injured at the scene, according to State Police. Troopers observed three motorcycles laying on their sides.

Witnesses and evidence at the scene suggest a strong wind carried one of the motorcyclists off the pavement and onto gravel. That rider attempted to return to the roadway, where they apparently lost control of their machine.

Two other motorcyclists attempted to avoid the crashed rider by swerving to their right and jumped off their bikes to avoid a collision with other vehicles.

Caton was transported to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth and later flown to Dartmouth Hospital, where he died.

The first rider who lost control of their motorcycle was transported to Concord Hospital with severe injuries and another rider was transported to Speare with minor injuries, according to a State Police press statement.

One lane of traffic was closed for around three hours while the scene was cleared by emergency personnel.

The crash remains under investigation. Assisting in the response were the Campton Police Department, Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue, Waterville Valley Fire Department and Plymouth Fire-Rescue.

Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Jacob Thomas at 603-369-2393 or Jacob.M.Thomas@DOS.NH.GOV.
