The latest ratings are in for the evening news broadcasts, and Tony Dokoupil has reason to smile as CBS Evening News was the only show to see week-over-week gains in total viewers and the key demographic.
According to AdWeek, citing national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, CBS Evening News averaged 3.806 million total viewers and 503,000 viewers in the coveted Adults 25-54 demo for the week of May 11. This was up 3 percent in total viewers and up 6 percent in the demo compared to the week prior.
CBS Evening News, which hit worrying record lows in recent months, was also up 1 percent in total viewers compared to the same period in 2025 and remained flat in the demo.
Despite the increases, CSB Evening News still trailed its competition on ABC and NBC. As usual, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir held the top spot, averaging 7.889 million total viewers and 962,000 demo viewers for the week of May 11. This was down 4 percent in total viewers and down 1 percent in the key demo compared to the previous week.
However, World News Tonight was up year over year, with total viewers up 13 percent and the demo up 8 percent.
NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas finished in second place, averaging 5.97 million total viewers and 831,000 demo viewers for the week of May 11. This was down 3 percent in total viewers and down 8 percent in the demo compared to the week before.
Much like World News Tonight, though, Nightly News was up on the same period from 2025, increasing by 9 percent in total viewers and by 7 percent in the key demo.
