Season 2 of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has reached its end, but not without laying the foundation for a major family feud to come. Warning: Spoilers for the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 finale ahead!
In the two-part finale, Georgie (Montana Jordan) had food poisoning, forcing his wife, Mandy (Emily Osment), and father-in-law, Jim (Will Sasso), to take over duties at the tire shop. Meanwhile, Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones) tried to cope with the fact that Connor (Dougie Baldwin) had begun seeing Chloe (Kara Arena) again.
In the second half of the finale, though, things grew contentious when Georgie learned that his mother, Mary (Zoe Perry), was attending bible study sessions with his nemesis, Fred Fagenbacher (Matt Letscher). In an attempt to catch Fagenbacher in a less-than-savory act at the local bar, Georgie recruited Meemaw (Annie Potts) to spy on the man.
The scheme didn’t go as planned, though, when Georgie and Mandy checked up on Meemaw in the bar only to find her in a laugh-filled conversation with Fagebacher. “I think the flaw might have been in picking Meemaw as the spy,” executive producer Steve Holland tells TV Insider.

“No doubt he regrets it,” star Montana Jordan says of Georgie’s choice to select his Meemaw as the spy. “He thought it was a good idea. He thought that she was gonna go in there and mean business and have his side, but she ended up getting along with Fred, and they drank a couple of beers together.”
The meet-up ultimately led Meemaw to point out that Mary is allowed to have a dating life and be happy, and seeing her get along with Fred is part of what interested the creative team in the barroom pairing. “It seemed like such a good plan,” Holland points out. “When we were breaking the story, [we wanted to find] a way to put Meemaw and Fagenbacher together, because those actors are both so great, but also Meemaw would like this guy.”
“She wouldn’t like that he’s mean to Georgie,” Holland clarifies. “But as a person, he’s sort of rascally, a scoundrel, and he likes getting under people’s skin, and Meemaw likes that.”
As for Georgie’s initial reaction to Mary and Fagenbacher hanging out, Jordan says, “Georgie will probably never like another man that Mary brings around; he will never accept that his mother is ready to move on. But Georgie also has to realize that not only is this his first time losing somebody this close, it’s his mother’s as well,” he adds, in reference to the ongoing grief over George Sr.’s (Lance Barber) death.

Still, Jordan says, “I think it’s more [Fagenbacher] trying to get under Georgie’s skin than actually trying to create a relationship out of this.”
But does Holland agree with the star’s estimation of Mary’s connection to the businessman? “I think what’s great about that is, to us, it’s somewhat ambiguous. There’s nothing in the episode that Fagenbacher does that leads you to think that he is nothing but genuine about his affection for Mary,” he points out. “Georgie is probably right not to trust him, and I think Mary is right to think he seems genuine.”
As the episode reached its closing moments, Georgie threatened Mary that he wouldn’t allow her to see his baby if she continued to hang around Fagenbacher, and she, in turn, kicked her son out of her home, informing him that she was allowed to have her own life. The question following that explosive argument is whether Mary will cave to Georgie’s demands in order to see her granddaughter or if she’ll forgo the right to assert her independence.
“It’s gonna be interesting to see if he actually follows through with that,” Jordan says, regarding Georgie’s threat. Meanwhile, Holland states, “These are two very stubborn characters who come into Season 3; neither one is going to want to admit that they were wrong and back off.” But thickening the plot even more are the McAllisters, who have their own history with Fagenbacher, with Audrey being his ex and Jim having been his competitor.
So, will they take Georgie’s side in the matter as we look ahead to Season 3? “They would have Georgie’s back in this situation because Jim and Audrey, neither one of them, is a fan of his. Mary is this Bible thumper that sees this guy wanting to change, wanting to become closer to the lord, and that’s what Mary’s doing. She sees somebody who’s struggling and wants to help,” share Jordan.
“They take Georgie’s side,” Holland echoes, regarding Georgie’s mindset about Fred mirroring the McAllisters’. “It’s strange, especially for Audrey, to be on Georgie’s side, but I think for Audrey to be on his side against his mother is just a really interesting new twist to this dynamic that we’ve played out over the last couple of years. I think it’s going to be really fun to play.”
