Maria Bartiromo became riled up on Friday’s (May 15) edition of Mornings with Maria when Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) pointed out the differences between President Trump and former President Obama when it came to dealing with Iran.
The Fox News anchor was asking Khanna about Trump’s recent visit to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping when she made a comment about Obama “sending Iran money,” referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
During Obama’s presidency, he signed an agreement to limit the Iranian nuclear program in return for sanctions relief and other provisions, including unfreezing the country’s assets.
Khanna interrupted Bartiromo to point this out, telling her, “Maria, just so we’re factual, he didn’t send them money; it was their money that was unfrozen.”
Bartiromo pressed Khanna on why Obama unfroze the money as she continued to tout Trump’s efforts in stopping Iran from having a nuclear weapon. She also said Obama’s deal didn’t have a commitment to stop Iran from building a nuclear weapon, which is factually inaccurate.
“For 15 years, 97% of enriched uranium out!” Khanna fired back. “Instead, what did we get? We ended up having 60% of enriched uranium when Trump tore up the deal! We have 13 American service members dead, we have Americans paying $4 at gas, we have food prices…”
“Obama did nothing,” Bartiromo continued to shout over Khanna.
“Let me just finish, Maria!” he said. “Look at the facts here: because Trump tore up the deal, Americans are dead, Americans are paying more for food, Americans are paying more for gas, the Strait of Hormuz is less secure, and the war is unpopular; 70% of Americans don’t want this war, even Republicans are defecting!”
“Nobody wants war,” Bartiromo responded, adding, “We also don’t want a nuclear terrorist to have a nuclear weapon.”
“And Obama was on the road to achieving that,” Khanna replied.
Bartiromo flipped, saying, “No, no way! He didn’t achieve anything! Obama did squat! Obama did squat!”
