TILTON — Virginia “Ginny” H. Durgin, 88, of 380 West Main Street in Tilton died Thursday, August 3, 2006 at the Mountain Ridge-Genesis Elder Care in Franklin following a period of failing health. She was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, January 19, 1918, daughter of Clarence H. and Hazel A. (Pease) Twombly. Virginia spent her youth and schooled in Gilmanton. Other than spending several years in Laconia she had lived in the Northfield-Tilton areas for most of her life. For many years she worked in health care and was employed for many years at the former Laconia State School. Ginny served as a Senior Companion with the Belknap Merrimack Community Action Program for many years, helping others over 60 to lead more fulfilling and independent lives. Ginny always loved gardening over the years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wendell Shepard, her son Richard Shepard and her second husband Edward Durgin. In 2003 she lost her companion of 16 years, Harvey L. Landfare.

Ginny’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, picking blueberries in the summer, trips to the ocean and riding country roads.

Her family includes her daughters, Barbara A. Duguay of Gilmanton and Alice L. Milliken of Laconia; her sons, Fred E. Shepard Sr. of Northfield, Dennis W. Shepard of Middletown, NY, Alan B. Durgin of Tilton,

numerous grand, great-grand and great ,great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Tilton.

The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is assisting her family with arrangements.
