SWANZEY — The Rev. Dr. Robert G. Robertson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 9, 2017, six weeks shy of his 81st birthday.
Pastor Robertson served as Pastor of the Mountain View Church (formerly Second Baptist Church of Sanbornton) from 2003 through 2008. His reason for leaving was to co-found an after-care prison ministry with his wife, Catherine. Together they purchased a farm where they took in men who were either coming out of prison or heading toward jail from 2008 to 2016. During that time, Pastor Robertson accepted a call to the Community Church of West Swanzey where he served as a bi-ministry part-time interim pastor until his retirement in June 2017.
Dr. Robertson earned an master of divinity degree at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and a doctor of theology degree from Harvard University. He spent his life serving the Lord in pastoral ministry, and bringing the Bible to life through his preaching and service. Dr. Robertson was a cancer survivor of 16 years.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his five children, Bruce Robertson of Massachusetts; Heather Robertson of Massachusetts, Scott Robertson of Wyoming, Jamie Robertson of California, and Bonnie Calnan of Massachusetts. He was blessed with seven precious grandchildren: Courtney, Meghan, Daniel, Edward, Laurel, Breanne and Owen.
Dr. Robertson was published in his field, served as mentor for a number of ministerial students and enjoyed the blessings and challenges of growing a congregation in the name of Jesus Christ. Pastor Robertson was working on memorizing the Old Testament Book of Psalms. He succeeded through Psalm 61 and was working on Psalm 62 when he joined the Lord in His Kingdom.
The Rev. Chris Blackey will officiate the memorial service which will be held at the Community Church of West Swanzey in Swanzey on July 30 at 2 p.m. A committal service will be held later in Sanbornton.
