Stephen M. Stuart, 90, of Meredith, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 6, 2025, in Meredith.
Stephen was born to the late David and Sophie (Toback) Stuart on Oct. 5, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts. Stephen graduated from Newton High School in 1953. After graduation, he served in the National Guard and then went on to learn his trade as a professional meat butcher.
Stephen, along with his father David and brother Robert, started Stuart Beef in Framingham, Massachusetts. It quickly grew into one of the largest meat purveyors in Massachusetts. Stephen and Robert also owned the Game Place Arcade in Moultonborough, during the early 1980s.
Stephen first discovered the beauty of Lake Winnipesaukee in the 1970s. He had a beautiful home on Long Island in Moultonborough, overlooking the islands and water of Lake Winnipesaukee. His family lake house was the center of enjoyment for boating, snowmobiling, working in his beautiful gardens and, most of all, having weekend cook-outs with family and friends.
Stephen Stuart is predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Stuart, and his sister Eileen Cohen. He is survived by his nephews and nieces Shawn Stuart and spouse Faith, Susie Stuart Nystrom, Ron Cohen and spouse Alice, Lisa Sinoway and spouse Neil and their children Tori Stuart, Michael Stuart, Robert Nystrom, Sophie Nystrom, Adam Cohen and spouse Jordana, Brad Cohen, and Shelby Esmond and spouse Daniel Esmond. Steve will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private graveside service was held at Temple Emeth Memorial Park in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at his favorite restaurant, Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant, 233 Daniel Webster Hwy, Meredith.
Stephen loved his pets dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, P.O. Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247, to help other animals find loving homes.
