Randall L. Huston, 75

Randall "Randy" Lee Huston, of Moultonborough, passed away on Aug. 9, at Golden View Health Care with his wife, Mary, and his pup, Ginger, by his side. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Randy was born on July 14, 1951, to Robert Randall Huston and Evelyn Smith Huston. He was a lifelong resident of Moultonborough, a town he absolutely loved and never tired of talking about to anyone who would listen. After graduating from Kingswood High School in 1970, Randy earned his first class radio technician license in Florida. He returned home and began working for WLNH. He earned the nickname “Rockin Randy” by DJing his own night show, "The Wonderful World of Gold,” playing hits from the '50s and '60s.

Later, he swapped the microphone for a trowel, forming Huston Bros. Masonry with his brother Bob. Eventually, he opened his own business. A passionate and gifted mason, Randy also loved building spec homes, including the Heritage Woods development in Sandwich. Throughout his work life he found the greatest satisfaction and his true reward in a job well done and the friendships he built, far more than in financial success.

Randy was also an outdoor enthusiast. He loved skiing, biking, kayaking and hiking, successfully summiting all of the White Mountains' 4,000-footers. In recent years, due to failing health, dog walks and playing fetch with Ginger were more his speed.

Randy was a kind, generous man with a heart of gold. Warm, quiet and unassuming, he was a gentle soul who genuinely loved people, easily saw the good in others, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a wide welcoming smile and a gift for making people feel deeply appreciated. His familiar line — "You are so smart for doing that" — would come at just the right time to provide the comfort or encouragement needed. He was a true and loyal friend and a good neighbor to all.

Above everything else in life Randy cherished his family. Married to Mary, the woman he called the love of his life for the last 25 years, he was also the very proud father of his sons, Ryan, Joel and Patrick Huston; his stepson, Jerrad Fowler; and his late stepdaughter, Lua Ameden. Affectionately known as “Papa,” he leaves behind a legacy of love with his seven grandchildren, Jaida, Carter, Maddox, Kamila, Kinsley, Summer and Abby, and three great-grandchildren, Huston, Lincoln and Liam. He loved and adored every one of them. He is also survived by his dear brothers Jim and Bob Huston and their families.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the employees of Quality Care Home Health & Hospice and Golden View Health Care for the exceptional kindness, care, and love shown to Randy over the past few months.

A service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held at the Moultonborough Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society in honor of the many dogs and cats who brought Randy so much love and joy throughout his life.
