Ralph M. Marcoot DDS, 80

Col. Ralph Michael Marcoot DDS, retired from the U.S. Army, 80, passed away on March 23, 2026, at Concord Hospital-Laconia following health complications.

Ralph, affectionately known as Mike, was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on Aug. 10, 1945, to Ralph Ernest and Naomi Marcoot. He grew up in Maryland. He attended Annapolis High School and the University of Maryland, College Park, where he graduated with a bachelor of science. Mike also attended the University of Maryland Dental School earning his doctorate of dental surgery. Mike was a member of the National Honor Society during high school, the Phi Sigma Zoological Society, Gorgas Odontological Society, Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Society and Xi Psi Phi Fraternity. He completed multiple medical residencies including a general practice residency at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He became a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, working for over 40 years.

As an oral surgeon, Mike helped thousands of military service members, their families and civilian patients over the course of his long career. He also never stopped his academic pursuits, co-authoring numerous publications and completing many advanced topic courses. Mike served the United States Army in postings around the world. For several years he served concurrently as chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, director of the OMS residency program at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, consultant to the surgeon general of the Army in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and associate professor at the Uniformed Services University before retirement from the Army. Mike then ran a successful private practice for over 15 years and supported the Three Lower Counties Community Services until retirement.

Mike married Maria Michele Camera on Feb. 18, 1978, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center Chapel. They were together for a wonderful 42 years until her death in 2020.

Mike spent a happy childhood in the Annapolis region where he developed a love of boating and water sports. He shared these joys with his family, whether on Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire, fishing in Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, or trips to the Atlantic Ocean, listening to the waves roll onto the beach. He had a passion for cool, fast cars, driving Corvettes, Porsches, Mini Coopers, and other vehicles, always dreaming of getting a Shelby Cobra. Mike enjoyed his retirement in New Hampshire, enjoying the scenic nature around him and trying local restaurants with his family. Mike loved being surrounded by the family entourage of dogs, spending time with his children, and passing his wisdom on to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, daughter Jennifer Marcoot of Tilton, and son Gregory Marcoot, former staff sergeant, U.S. Army, and his wife Sarah and grandchildren Lilyanna and William of Laconia; and extended family and in-laws. A long-time friend, Anita Gillis (and family), became a second daughter over the course of her life.

Mike will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family will receive visitors 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King St. in Boscawen. Committal will follow at 2 p.m. with full military honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy in Boscawen.
