MEREDITH — Norma J. Batchelder, of 153 Parade Road, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Forest View Manor, Meredith.
Born in Franklin, Norma was the daughter of the late Channing and Isadore (Martel) Worden. She spent her childhood years in Franklin, attending Franklin schools. In high school, she was active in field hockey and proudly played the trumpet in the marching band.
After graduation, Norma was employed by AT&T as a telephone operator where she met and married, Stuart H. Batchelder. They moved to Nashua, where they resided for 50 years and raised their two daughters. We all have fond memories of their 50th wedding anniversary gathering at the Pasquaney Inn on Newfound Lake. Later moving to Belmont, they returned to the Lakes Region to enjoy their retirement years.
Soft spoken with a wry wit, Norma was known as “Mom” to many of “Her Girls.” She was a welcoming homemaker who enjoyed cooking, counted cross-stitch, rug braiding, rug hooking, Red Sox games, the 11 o’clock news, and spending a lot of time with family and friends. No one could come out a winner in any card game with “Mom.”
Norma is survived by her daughters, Karen Lofstrom, Nashua and Kimberly Batchelder, New Gloucester, Maine; and her grandson, Derek Lofstrom, Winchester, Massachusetts, and his four children, Eamon, Evelyn, Beatrice and Freya. She is predeceased by her husband, Stuart Batchelder; as well as her brother, Kenneth Worden, Hill; and sisters, Pauline (Worden) Rivard, Hill, and Margaret (Worden) Deragon, Tilton.
