Newfound Seeks Public's Assistance to Select New Superintendent of Schools
Bristol, NH -- The Newfound Area School Board announced the formation of a formal screening committee as part
of its search for a new Superintendent of Schools. The committee will be comprised of 13 members who will be
charged with reviewing, interviewing and selecting finalists from all applicants. The School Board will then consider
those candidates to replace current Superintendent Dr. Marie Ross, effective June 30, 2013 when her contract expires.
Ross notified the Board of her intent not to renew her contract in early December.
"Dr. Ross's early notice to the School Board gives us a major head start to take advantage of a greater selection
of interested candidates," said School Board Chairman Vincent Paul Migliore of Bridgewater. "While we will indeed
miss her, we appreciate and are thankful she had the foresight to allow us the advantage of time by getting such an
early start on this important community process."
The Newfound School Board has contracted with the New England School Development Council
(NESDEC) to assist with the search for a new Superintendent of Schools.
In the next several days, the School Board intends to appoint a Screening Committee to assist in the
superintendent search process. While the School Board has the sole authority to appoint the superintendent, it wishes
to have the benefit of input from a Screening Committee made up of various members of the community and from
school personnel who will report to the new Superintendent.
Migliore continued, "The Newfound Area School Board asks that each member serving on the Screening
Committee keep the following points in mind. The participant should be available to attend several evening meetings
including all the candidate interview sessions, and he/she should understand that much of the business of the Screening
Committee will require a high degree of confidentiality as potential candidates' names and application materials will be
reviewed and discussed. With the search timeline aggressive, participation will only be for a short period."
Several groups will be contacted by Interim Superintendent Dr. Philip McCormack, or by Board Chairman
Migliore to outline the procedure for interested individuals to participate. The deadline to respond is 3:00PM on
Monday, January 14, 2013.
"The make-up of the committee, recommended by NESDEC and agreed to by the School Board is as follows:
1 Member at-Large, selected by School Board. Leslie Dion, Director, Tappley Thompson Community Center has been
named by the Board to serve in that role. 2 Members of the School Board, selected by the School Board: Members
Paul Rheinhardt of New Hampton and Susan Cheney of Alexandria have agreed to take on those roles, with Rheinhardt
serving as Screening Committee Chair. 2 Members of the Administration, selected by the School Administrators.
Additionally, 2 Members of the Support (non-contract) Staff, will be selected from all letters submitted interested
candidates, by lottery. 2 Members of the Professional (contract) Staff , will be selected by a method chosen by NATA
(Newfound Teachers Association). Finally, 2 members from nominations made by the cooperative district's seven
town Boards of Selectmen, will be selected by lottery from those 14 individuals so nominated. Finally 2 member
from the public who are parents or guardians of NASD school children currently in the system, will also be selected by
lottery from a list of those expressing interest by letter to the School Board Chairman no later than the deadline of
Monday, January 14, 2013," said Migliore. "Those letters should be directed to me in care of SAU#4 20 Main Street
Bristol, NH 03222."
The Newfound Area Co-operative School District is made up of the following seven towns: Alexandria,
Bridgewater, Bristol, Danbury, Groton, Hebron and New Hampton.
