LACONIA — Here's to a life well lived. Nancy “Nan” Sargent Castellon passed away on Oct. 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia.
She was born in Arlington, Massachusetts, on April 21, 1929, to Walter and Florence (née Teel) Sargent. She had two siblings, Dorothy and Richard. She married Robert H. Castellon on Nov. 23, 1950, and had three children, Linda (Leo), Bill (Nancy) and Patti (Bob).
Throughout her marriage, along with all her family accomplishments, she prided herself on supporting and managing Bob's career with the Bruins as well as her own career as a medical office manager.
She was a strong, determined, gracious, humorous, and fierce loving woman beloved and cherished by her family. When asked about favorite memories, the family compiled many. Lake Winnipesaukee topped the list with swimming and boating. Snow skiing, cats, family dinners with sweet tea, chocolate cake with boiled frosting, special brownies, and of course, Brigham's vanilla ice cream. More recently were her ice cream trips with her great-grandchildren. Most important, however, were her Nana hugs (pat, pat) and unwavering support.
Many benefitted from her creative skills in sewing and knitting projects. She chaired the church flower committee and the fair greens workshops for many years. Her gardening skills were extraordinary, evident as you walked by her house. She even hosted her grandson’s wedding in her garden and hosted garden tours. Always a hobbyist, she was a juried gold and silversmith, even crafting her children’s wedding rings.
Nan was predeceased by her husband, her son, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by her two daughters; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Nan will be laid to rest in the Raymond C. Wixson Memorial Garden at the Gilford Community Church. Per her request, services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Nan requested that you give a hug to a loved one and remind them how much they mean to you. Memorial donations in Nancy’s name may also be made to the Gilford Community Church Flower Fund, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, NH 03249.
She will be sorely missed.
