Margaret “Midge” Louise Flanders, aged 74, passed away on Nov. 22, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Midge was born on May 17, 1950, in Natick, Massachusetts, the daughter of A. George and Margaret (née Cousin) Dancer. She lived in Dover, Massachusetts, until she moved to Alexandria, in the early 1960s. She attended high school at Newfound Memorial High School in Bristol, received her undergraduate degree and master's in special education from Plymouth State in Plymouth. She became a teacher in special education at Pemi Easterseals and then Franklin Middle School.
Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for helping the children in her care. She also helped her husband, Jack, keep the books for his concrete business. She spent most of her life living with Jack in the house they built in Alexandria. Recently, she and Jack have been living in Tavares, Florida, among the many friends they made down south.
More than anything, Midge was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren, sharing stories, playing games, and going on adventures. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. In her free time, Midge enjoyed crafts, camping, kayaking, picking berries and many other outdoor activities. She was always eager to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with her children and grandchildren.
Midge is survived by her loving husband, Michael “Jack” Flanders; her children, Cherylyn L. (Allen) Gable and Michael (Crystal) Flanders Jr.; and her grandchildren, Michael and Alyssa Flanders and Kaitlyn and Kyle Gable.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends this coming spring in New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
