FRANKLIN — Mr. Leo J. Martin, 90, formerly of Independence Ave. and Grove St. in Franklin, died at The NH Veterans Home in Tilton on Dec. 28, 2004. He was born in Lawrence, Mass. on March 13, 1914 the son of Wilfred and Eleanore (Perron) Martin.

Mr. Martin was raised in Lawrence, Mass. and graduated from St. Anne Elementary School and Lawrence High School, Class of 1938,

During World War II, he served as a Tech Sgt. with the 110th Army Air Force Unit. He was shot down on May 28, 1944 in Italy and spent five months with the Italian Resistance. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, Air Medal, and several other awards.

Mr. Martin was a truck driver for many years. Several years ago, he worked for C & H Transport in Cambridge, Mass. for seven years, and then for St. Johnsbury Trucking for 45 years until retiring in 1979.

He was a life member of Franklin BPO Elks Lodge #1280 and the Lawrence, Mass. Elks Lodge, Franklin VFW Post #1698, and The Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Mr. Martin was a communicant of St. Paul Church. His wife, Rita (LaFreniere) Martin died in 1999.

Family members include his daughter, Mrs. Scott (Eleanor) Sargent of Tilton; three sons, Richard Martin and Ronald Martin, both of Franklin, and Les Martin of Malden, Mass.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Mr. Adrien “Eddie” Martin of Lawrence; two sisters, Blanche Pomerleau and Irene Castonguay, both of Lawrence, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin from 6 - 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Church. Spring burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Franklin.
