Kenneth W. McComb Sr., 75

 

LACONIA — Kenneth W. McComb Sr., 75, of Old North Main Street, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016, comforted by his loving wife, Jean, and his children.

Ken was born on Sept. 18, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to Roy and Olga (Kuzak) McComb.

He attended Ardsley High School in Ardsley, New York, where he was the first 1,000-point scorer in the school's basketball history. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on a full basketball scholarship. After college, he was selected a 10th-round draft pick for the Philadelphia Warriors. He also played for Real Madrid in Spain.

Ken worked his entire life in the New York area for the Town of Greenburgh and the City of White Plains as a general foreman for the Recreation and Parks departments. Following his retirement in 2003, Ken and his wife, Jean settled in Laconia.

Ken adored his family. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 35 years and his loving three children, Kimberly Crowley-Browne and her husband, Gary, of Orchard Park, New York; Dawn Gray and her husband, Kraig, of Sandy Hook, Connecticut; Kenneth Jr. and his wife, Ashley, of Rye, New York; and eight grandchildren: Shannon, Matt, Charlotte, Owen, Lincoln, Max, Mason and Chloe. He was so proud of each one of them. He will be missed by his brother, Dennis McComb of Newark, California, and his wife, Jane; three brothers-in-law, Dr. Alonzo J. Drummond Jr. and his wife, Sandra of San Antonio, Texas; Bill Drummond and his wife, Judy, of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and Greg Drummond and his wife, Cece of White Plains, New York; along with eight nephews: Michael, Denis, Greg, Brad, Robert, Daren, Ryan and Douglas; and three nieces: Denise, Kristen and Jessica.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion, 52 North Broadway, White Plains, New York. A private burial will follow at the family plot at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, New York.
