John "Jack" T. Sutcliffe, 81
FRANKLIN — John "Jack" Thomas Sutcliffe, 81, a longtime resident of Franklin died suddenly, Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin after being stricken ill at his home.
Jack was born in Westerly, Rhode Island, Dec. 21, 1934, son of the late, John H. and Irene (Morenzoni) Sutcliffe. He spent his youth and schooled in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, living there until moving to Franklin, 45 years ago. Jack was educated at a vocational school for meat cutting.
After moving to Franklin he was employed at several grocery stores in Concord. For years Jack worked at Bob's Shur-Fine Market in Ashland prior to his retirement. To keep active with his trade Jack then worked part-time at the former DeRoy's Market in Tilton. He always welcomed his customers with a warm smile.
Over the years Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest pastime was building model airplanes for his grandchildren.
He was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox. Their last game was a winning one the day he died. Jack always enjoyed watching the birds at his home. Jack was a parishioner of St. Paul Church of St. Gabriel Parish, School Street, in Franklin.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by a son, Mark.
He leaves, his wife of 45 years, Norma M. (Finley) Sutcliffe of Franklin; sons, John and his wife Theresa Sutcliffe of Westerly, Rhode Island, and Thomas and his wife Gina Sutcliffe of Richmond, Rhode Island; daughters, Donna Talbert and her husband John of Franklin, Doreen Thibault and her husband, Richard of Tilton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, John, Monica, Nichole, Dana, Christopher, Kristina, James and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Michael, Abigail, Evan, Lili and Mackenzie. His sister, Joanne Sminkey.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, to celebrate Jack's life at St. Paul Church in Franklin. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Sanborn Road, in Tilton.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Jack's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
