OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — John B. Swinehart, 58, of Old Orchard Beach, lost his battle with cancer Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, while at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough where he was surrounded by family and friends.
John was born in Henniker, N.H., the son of Agnes (Cullen) Swinehart and Lewis Stanley Swinehart Jr. John attended Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, N.H., and graduated from Bangor Community College.
John is survived by his three beautiful daughters, Mary (Rodney) Lake; and grandsons Walter and Frederick Lake of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Alice Swinehart of North Carolina and Rose Swinehart of Old Orchard Beach; a sister, Anne Sweeny of Portland, Ore.; and brothers, Mark Swinehart of Concord, N.H., and Curt Swinehart of Exeter, N.H.; and Elizabeth Cabot, John's longtime partner, constant companion, and loving caregiver.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, David and Lewis S. Swinehart III.
John retired from the Town of Cape Elizabeth where he had worked as a police dispatcher after 27 years of service to the community.
He was an active member of Bill and Bob's Club and longtime volunteer for the Parents' Associations at his daughters' schools in Old Orchard Beach.
At John's request there will be no memorial service. Arrangements provided by Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford.
