LACONIA — James “Jim” H. Trickey, 90, of Laconia, passed away on Sept. 30, 2026, at home after a period of declining health.

Jim was born in Biddeford, Maine, on March 19, 1936, to the late James Trickey and Louise (Chabot) Trickey. He was raised in Biddeford, where he enjoyed fishing the Saco River with his dad. He graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford in 1954, and served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957.

In 1959, he married the love of his life Catherine (McEnery) of Saco, Maine. No matter her request, the chore she asked of him or while engaged in a heated debate, you could count on hearing Jim’s smiling, classic reply: “Yes, dear.”

Jim and Cathy moved to Laconia in 1963, where they raised their four daughters while Jim worked for First National Stores as a meat cutter. He was well respected for his hard work and easy going nature. He also worked for many years at Walter's Market, IGA, and in the fall you could find him at the Meredith Center Store with Barry taking care of the game the hunters brought his way.

Jim was an avid fisherman and enjoyed several trips with his buddies over the years, his favorites included Canada, Newfoundland, and Trio Pond in Stark. Jim and Cathy also enjoyed traveling together to France, Ireland, several National Parks, and the Canadian Rockies.

Jim had many hobbies. He was an amazing artist and enjoyed painting beautiful landscapes that he shared with his family, which they proudly have hanging in their homes. He loved having a vegetable garden and growing flowers too, and often shared his bounty with family and friends. Jim loved animals and bird watching, going to auctions and yard sales, playing as much cribbage as he could, and later in life doing puzzles (although he was convinced there was always one piece missing).

Jim was a proud and faithful longtime friend of Bill W.; this was an extremely important part of Jim’s life for the last 30 years and he treasured the friendships he made there.

He loved the simple pleasures of life, but nothing made him happier than spending time with his family either in Laconia, or Hills Beach, Maine.

Jim’s legacy of love lives on through his wife, Cathy; his daughters, Jane (Marc) Chauvin of Bartlett, their children Xana (Matt) and Nia (Jamie); Laurie Brooks (Kevin Glenn) of Bolton, Connecticut, and her children James (Lucy) and Justin (Veronica); Mary (Bruce) Freedman of Granby, Connecticut, their children Jesse (Michelle) and Molly; and Patty (Randy) Pike of Gilmanton, with their children Linds and Andrew (Bailey). He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Amelia, Zay, Lailat, Ziggy, Emory, James Ellis, Crew, Baker, Leo and one more on the way.

A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, at St. Andre Bessette Parish — Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., following the calling hour, also at the church.

Burial will take place in his hometown of Biddeford, Maine, at a later date.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jim’s incredible caregivers at Freedom Home Health, Granite VNA & Hospice, the doctors and nurses at Concord Hospital-Laconia, and the several amazing private caregivers who provided such loving and compassionate care to our dad, especially during his final weeks. We are deeply grateful for the kindness, dedication, and comfort they gave him and our family during such a difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name may be sent to St. Andre Bessette Parish, 291 Union Ave., Laconia, NH 03246, or to a charity that is near and dear to your heart.
