Gwen Copeland, 74

LOUDON — After a lengthy hospitalization, Gwen Copeland passed away on Sept. 21 in Concord Hospital. She was 74 and a longtime resident of Loudon. She will be missed by many. The words of her close friend and neighbor say much about her life. "She was a strong, independent, sensitive, loyal and caring friend." Gwen was a teacher, tennis player, lover of all animals, particularly her cats and dogs, and an avid gardener. In her free time she loved following sports, news, doing crafts, crossword puzzles and visiting with her friends.

Gwen was the daughter of Thesius Dodd and Olwen Copeland. She leaves behind family in New Jersey, and many lifelong friends, particularly in Plymouth. She was a well-loved teacher. She began her teaching career in New York City, later teaching biology in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. Later, Gwen moved to New Hampshire, where she had a long career in the NH Food and Nutrition Service. She was highly regarded by her peers, and formed a strong work-team relationship with her coworkers.

Gwen was challenged by several medical issues, yet always remained positive. She always remembered birthdays and celebrations with a call and card. She was especially grateful for the love and support of Patty and Kenny Magoon, her neighbors in Loudon. Patty feels that "she lost a truly good and loyal friend".

Memorial donations in Gwen's name can be sent to one's favorite local animal shelters. No service is planned at this time. Please honor Gwen by keeping her in your memory. She certainly will be missed.
