LACONIA — The next opportunity for community members to get onto the Colonial Theatre stage is coming soon. Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative, the resident theatre company of the Colonial Theatre, has auditions for its summer musical production, “Shrek the Musical.”
Each summer, Powerhouse tries to do a large scale musical with roles for all ages (6-60+) that provides an opportunity to work together on an exciting musical to share with the community.
This year’s production will take place Aug. 7-9, and feature all the iconic characters from the hit Dreamworks movie, including Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, Lord Farquaad, Gingy, and Pinocchio. All the information on how to register and prepare for auditions can be found at powerhousenh.org/auditions.
Auditions will be held at the Colonial on Thursday May 7, with callbacks on Sunday, May 10, if needed. Most rehearsals will take place in June and July, on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays, in Laconia.
Powerhouse is looking for talented actors, singers and dancers of all ages to come join the summer fun. The musical will be directed by Bryan Halperin and Courtney Palmer, with vocal direction by Alex Hunton, and choreography by Meg King.
“This year we decided to do all shows that would be loads of fun, and what’s more fun than a gassy, grouchy ogre learning the meaning of friendship and love?” Halperin said. “We can’t wait to find our cast.”
Tickets for Shrek are already on sale at coloniallaconia.com and powerhousenh.org — buyers should make sure they are only buying tickets from the correct links, as third-party sites inflate the ticket prices.
