WOLFEBORO — Winter Carnival returns to Wolfeboro with events for young and old alike from Feb. 21 through March 1. With events based at Abenaki Ski Area, Pop Whalen Ice Arena and throughout greater Wolfeboro, there is literally something for everyone.
Abenaki Winter Triathlon, will be held at 9 am, Saturday, February 21. It starts with a 1/2 mile snowshoe at Abenaki Ski Area. Participants then cross-country ski for 2.78 miles through the snowy woods, then run into the ice arena to finish off with a 1 mile lap skate. .
The Annual Progressive XC Ski Dinner will be held at 6:30pm on Saturday, February 21 on the Abenaki XC Ski Loop Trail. Participants will strap on skis, snowshoes or good winter boots and progress out on to the candle-lit 4 Kilometer XC Ski Loop starting at Abenaki Ski Area. Skiers and hikers will stop at warm bonfires along the 4K trail and be treated to a multi-course Italian dinner served at various stations along the way. Appetizers and a small warming fire will greet participants at the first table, followed by a s Italian main course at the second station a kilometer or two down the trail, followed by the dessert station in Pikes Pasture, complete with s'mores, ice cream sandwiches, cookies, cocoa and coffe. In between stations, participants ski or hike through the tranquil woods of the Abenaki Loop Trail, lit by hundreds of candle-lit luminariestars. Hikers must have a ticket that is available to purchase for $15 for adults, $10 for youth.
Limited to 125 participants, this event is currently sold out, but you can be added to the wait list by registering at wolfeboronh.us/Abenaki or by visiting our offices at Pop Whalen Ice Arena.
Other events include "All. I. Can." Ski Movie at Pinckney Boat House, Brewster Academy, Wednesday, February 25, at 7 pm
Doors open for "All. I. Can." at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7 pm. Tickets for the film are $5 for adults and $3 for youth (under 18) at the door.
Abenaki Ski Area will be hosting an open Slopestyle Competition at 4 pm, on Thursday, February 26th. The slopestyle competition consists of taking a complete run through the terrain park, doing a combination of tricks and jumps on the various elements to earn the highest possible score. Skiers and Boarders are judged on style, amplitude and difficulty. Medals for top three scores in youth through adult age divisions.
There will be a free Skating Party at Pop Whalen Arena, 6:30pm, Thursday, February 26.
On Friday, February 27 at 5 pm, Abenaki Ski Area will be hosting Ski and Snowboard Races that are open to the public. The Ski Races consist of taking runs through our slalom race course and competing for the best time out of 2 runs with medals for the top three times in youth through adult age divisions.
