MEREDITH — Community Garden Club of Meredith and the Altrusa International Club of Meredith proudly announce a co-hosted Cultural Arts Program to be held August 21 at 7 p.m. at Meredith Community Center.

"The Granite Kiss: Traditions and Techniques of Building New England Stone Walls", will be presented by Kevin Gardner. He will explore the history, aesthetics, and philosophy of working with stone. The presentation will engage both the armchair craftsman as well as the beginning wall builder. The program cost is $10 per person. Reservations strongly suggested, call 253-3120.The air conditioned Meredith Community Center offers ample parking and is handicap accessible.

Kevin Gardner is a writer, teacher, tradesman, and a lifelong resident of Hopkinton. For nearly forty years he has built, repaired and restored stone walls as part of a family business widely known for traditional New England stonework, particularly for historic restoration of antique structures. He has also published poetry, songs, and essays as well as the anthology, Where The Mountain Stands Alone.

Don't miss the opportunity to explore the New England fascination with the simplicity and endurance of stone walls that seemingly wander through our woods and farms border our roads and tell a story of hard work, dedication, and beauty. Kevin will share tips and techniques that will demystify and simplify wall building.

Tickets will be available at this event and all garden club gatherings for the 2014 Summer Raffle. This season featuring: the Home Tweet Home barn board bird house created and designed by a local Meredith artist. Winning ticket will be drawn at the closing luncheon on Thursday, October 2. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for local students studying horticulture and environmental sciences
