SANBORNTON – Sant Bani School recognized achievements of high school students at its end-of-year awards on June 5. Head of School Kent Bicknell welcomed and introduced scholarship presenters from a variety of business and civic organizations to the event, as well as the heads of several academic departments.

Paulette Loughlin and Joan Cormier of the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation presented three awards. Harrison Evans, Meredith, received the Lawrence & Nancy Smith Award for $2,500; Raianna Krahn-Burke, Ashland, received the Mallorie Roux Memorial Award, for $675; and Giullia McDonald, Laconia, accepted the Gilford Academy Trust Award for $825 and the Lucille & George Guild Memorial Award for $275. Harrison will attend Ithaca College, Giullia plans to go to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Raianna will enter Becker College.

David Savastano from Franklin Savings Bank presented Javin deMello-Folsom, Sanbornton, with a scholarship for $1000. Javin will attend Clark University. Chris Fenn, Student and Volunteer Services Coordinator at Speare Memorial Hospital, recognized Sarah Steenbergen, Hebron, for her extensive volunteer work. Sarah will be attending Muhlenberg College. In addition, Harrison Evans and Raianna Krahn-Burke received $1000 each from the Meredith Rotary Club.

Awards from Sant Bani department heads followed. Debbie Asbeck presented Javin deMello- Folsom with the award for Excellence in a Foreign Language for his achievements in five years of Spanish. Karen Bicknell awarded books for Excellence in English to seniors Breslin Bell, Concord, who will attend Wellesley College; Jenna Sutcliffe, Plymouth, who will attend Clark University; and Sarah Steenbergen. Also recognized were eleventh graders Marin Smith, Hill, who received the Smith Book Award, and Teresa Dancewicz Helmers, Hill, who received an award for Excellence in Junior English.

Robert Schongalla presented awards for Excellence in Science to seniors Jenna Sutcliffe and Raianna Krahn-Burke, and juniors Teresa Dancewicz Helmers and Zhenglin Yu, from China, hosted by Rodney and Maurajean Pitman of Franklin. Kirsten Wilkinson presented an award for Excellence in Math to Breslin Bell, and an award for Most Improved to senior Caio Thielen, from Brazil, hosted by Dan Fife and Cathy Donahue of Concord. Caio will attend Escuela Nacional de Experimentación y Realización Cinematográfica (Argentina) after a gap year.

Richard Danahy, Head of Technology, recognized freshman Brennan Macaig, Franklin and Concord, for service through technology. Brittney Peterson, Athletic Director, presented Scholar-Athlete and New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association awards to Joyce Hamel, Sanbornton and Franklin, and Javin deMello-Folsom. Joyce will attend Franklin Pierce University.
