The New Hampshire Department of Corrections will host lawmakers and support groups at an Open House for the Family Connections Center satellite office now operating at the Shea Farm Halfway House in Concord. The event will be Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.
The Family Connections Center, which provides family support initiatives for incarcerated parents and their children, has operated at the Lakes Region Facility in Laconia since 1998. Thanks to a grant from the New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund and support from New Hampshire Child and Family Services, this program has been expanded to the all-female halfway house.
"This is an important program, which has had a positive influence on the lives of offenders and their families. Its expansion to Shea Farm will continue to promote a positive family support system, particularly for female offenders," Commissioner William L. Wrenn said.
In October, the Department of Corrections received a grant to expand the Laconia-based program to Shea Farm. It began operating on December 17, 2005.
