NEW HAMPTON — The New Hampton Garden Club had a progressive luncheon on Aug. 1 to celebrate their 85th year. There were four stops at members’ homes to view their gardens and share gardening ideas as they enjoyed the food and drinks at each stop. Fresh fruit, muffins, cold blueberry soup, sandwiches, delicious punches, tea and coffee were enjoyed before cutting the cake.
NH State Federation President Joyce Kimball joined them and made this a special event by cutting the anniversary cake. The weather cooperated and it was a lovely day for a memorable garden tour. Many pictures were taken for their scrapbook.
The club is accepting donations from anyone who would like to honor Trudy Mudgett Powers, who recently passed away. Trudy was a loyal club member, Gordon Nash Library Trustee and advocate, as well as a long-time teacher at Inter-Lakes High School. The club is having a memorial bench placed at the entrance to Gordon Nash Library and with any extra funds, a stone planter. Perhaps there are former students and fellow teachers who would like to be part of this memorial to Trudy’s life.
Donations can be made by sending a check, made out to New Hampton Garden Club, to Anne-Marie McCormack, 633 Old Bristol Road, New Hampton, NH 03256.
The club’s next event will be the New Hampton Old Home Day on Aug. 12 with their raffle baskets. Tickets can be bought that day and winner drawn in afternoon.
