Miller Environmental Education Fund Recipients Announced

MOULTONBOROUGH — The Miller Environmental Education Fund is pleased to announce the funding recipients for 2014.

Funding was given to the Moultonborough Academy Outing Club, which has been dedicated to providing outdoor experiences to students in grades 7 -12, since 2009. The group participates in both day and overnight trips, paddle trips on local rivers, local bike trips and they adopted the task of trail maintenance of Red Hill in the fall and spring. The objective of the club is to reach students who might not otherwise be able to experience the New Hampshire/New England wilderness. The funding will be used for student scholarships, travel costs and medical kits and other outdoor supplies.

Funding was also provided to support a school-wide assembly at Moultonborough Central School. Naturalist and author Mary Holland will be returning to MCS as a follow up to a very successful program she presented last April. Ms Holland spent the day in classrooms activities as well as an evening presentation including families and community members. This year's visit is intended to spark the students' curiosity and enthusiasm for their Earth Day excursions to various local sites.

The Miller Environmental Education Fund was developed in 2007 out of a profound appreciation for the service and dedication of Michele Miller, former principal of Moultonborough Central School and the 2006 NH Environmental Educator of the Year award recipient.
