Meredith Senior Center is this week celebrating more than 35 years of service to area seniors and their families, marking Senior Center Week.

The center acts as the hub of activities for older adults and their families, empowering older adults to remain independent through education, fitness, socialization and good nutrition and encouraging respect and dignity through community involvement and volunteerism.

Meredith Senior Center is sponsored by Community Action Program, Belknap-Merrimack Counties Inc., Nutrition and Elder Services and is a United Way member agency. The center is a ServiceLink satellite office offering supported information and referral services related to aging, chronic illnesses and disabilities. It sponsors a monthly caregivers support group, educational programs, health and wellness seminars and health screenings, speakers, social and community events and volunteer opportunities. Nutritious daily lunches, Meals On Wheels and Door-To-Door transportation on the wheelchair accessible CAP bus are available daily by reservation.

Senior Centers — Our Community Investment is the theme of this year’s national celebration. Through the efforts of countless volunteers, many of them seniors, the 60 year dream of a community center for all ages is indeed, a reality. The Senior Lakers, during 2005, donated $500 from raffles, auctions and a yard sale to their new home at Meredith Community Center.

All are invited to drop in and visit Meredith Senior Center during Senior Center Week and see first hand the variety of activities, programs and services that the center offers. (Reservations are necessary only for lunch.)
