On Monday, March 27, 2006 the Lakes Region Planning Commission (LRPC) will host a Commission meeting in the new Moultonborough Safety Building, located on NH Route 25 in Moultonborough. Starting at 6:00 p.m., the meeting will begin with a review of proposed regional goals for the interim Lakes Region Development Plan. At approximately 6:35 p.m., state and national ground water experts will talk about the assessment, management, and regulation of ground water as a public and commercial resource in New Hampshire. They will provide insight into a growing public debate about the capacity of an aquifer to serve both public and commercial interests.

James Emery, Principal, Emery and Garrett Groundwater, Inc. will provide an overview on how ground water is defined and identified as a resource. His presentation will describe how aquifers are assessed and managed as a source for both public and commercial water applications. Emery and Garrett Groundwater, Inc. is a leading ground water exploration and development company with an extensive network of regional and national clientele. The business is headquartered in Meredith.

Brandon Kernen, Manager of the Source Water Protection Program in the NH Department of Environmental Services, will then talk about New Hampshire’s regulatory and permitting process for the use of ground water. He will also highlight current legislation relative to large ground water withdrawals.

All meetings are open to the public. In case inclement weather forces a meeting cancellation on March 27, it will be rescheduled for March 28, same time and place. For additional information, please contact the LRPC at 279-8171 or lrpc@lakesrpc.org.
